On his apostolic visit to the United States, Pope Francis described Thomas Merton as “a man of prayer, a thinker who challenged the certitudes of his time and opened new horizons.” Through my work on Merton, I invite others to challenge the certitudes of racism and individualism in our time that we may open new horizons.
